My learning goal

My learning goal

Today in class we chose our learning goals. We had to chose reading goals, writing goals and maths  goals. My maths goals is very interesting and that is what I'm going to talk to you about today.

My maths goal is to add and subtract four digit numbers like 3999+1876 but in column format (Algorithm):
            1
        3999
1.  + 1879
              8
First, I add the ones and if it is 10 or more I will add the one on top of the tens. E.g. 9+9=18 so I write 8 and add the 1 on top of the tens.
          11
        3999
2.  + 1879
            78
Second, I add the tens and again, if there is 10 or more I will add the one on top of the hundreds. E.g. 9+7+1=17 so I write 7 and add the 1 on top of the hundreds.
        111
        3999
3.  + 1879
          878
Third, I add the hundreds and once again, if there is 10 or more I will add the one on top of the thousands. E.g. 9+8+1=18 so I write the 8 and add the 1 on top of the thousands.
        111
        3999
4.  + 1879
        5878
Fourth and final, I add all the thousands together to get 5 (3+1+1) and put that in front of the 8. If you did it right you would get 5878!

Spiders are listening to you...

New research say that spiders are actually listening to you. US and Israeli scientst have been looking carefully at spiders (no spider inperticuler) and seeing how they react to loud and soft sounds. they found this by using a jumping spider an sliding chairs across the floor. I found this very interesting and I will be very careful for what I say about spiders around them.

Trees can talk to other trees

Today in kiwi kids news I learned about how trees can talk to other trees. Like when there is a disease and if there is little water and other things similer like that. German tree expert Peter Wohlleben says that trees have personalities and can even recognize family members. When the 'mother' tree spreads her seed she raises them like her children and helps them grow so they can spread their seeds. I really enjoyed this topic because I am passionate about nature.

Sea Adventure

Sea Adventure
Pua cast his line from the dinny and it snagged right away. Uncle tried to help him reel it in but it didn’t budge. Suddenly the skies turned grey, the sea got choppy and a giant pirate ship bubble from the depth of the ocean. Dwarfing Uncles dinny.

And I mean GIANT! A bit more larger than an average cruise ship.
”Must have been a while since it was used” said Uncle in astonishment.
“Cool” exclaimed Pua.
”let's go inside and see if we can find anything to take back to the village , we will be rich!”
“When  you put it like that…” said Uncle.

“Wow!” shouts Pua when he finds a gold coin the size of his head.
“This will pay for a  YEAR'S crop for the village, I’ll be able to buy myself a PSP.”
“Not that fast” says Uncle
“Think about everybody first.”
“But I found it…” Pua sticks out his lip just as it fell down a big crack
“...and lost it.”
“Better go down and find it” says Uncle as he finds the ladder

When the got to the bottom of the ladder (which took a long time) they couldn’t believe their eyes. There was a stack of giant gold coins as high as the roof. Then a unusual sound came from behind the stack of gold coins
“Ow ow ow”
“A seal?” Questioned Pua
“Stay behind me. It might be a giant seal” instructed Uncle in a stern voice.
Then out behind the stack of gold coins came a baby seal.
“Oh” says Uncle
“Ha, you don’t need to look after me as much now do you” Exclaims Pua
“Look at all that gold, how will we get it all to shore?” asks Uncle “Oh yea” says Pua  finding his common sense
“Uncle, Pua where are you… WOW!”
“That will be Jay”  Says Pua
“He might be able to help get all this gold to shore!”
“Best haul all this gold up to deck” says Uncle

“ Hm Jay, can you help get all this gold the village?”
Sure as long as I get a gold coin too!” Says Jay greedily
“Fine, everybody will get one anyway” Say Pua
“Ow ow ow”
“That will be the seal” Says Pua with a sigh
“What seal?” asked Jay
“Must go down and find him” says Uncle
“What seal!?”

So when they got back to the village everyone got a gold coin, the best crops and that's how Pua got his pet seal Jake

waterline

Waterline

In waterline we have been learning about water, how precious it is and how to take care of it. I've learned that 97% of all the water in the world is too salty and 2% is to deep or is frozen on the north or south pole. That means the only 1% is our drinking water. Also that water is made out of water molecule and a water molecule is made out of 1 piece of oxygen and 2 pieces is made out of hydrogen. That makes a teeny weeny water molecule. 1 billion water molecules make a water droplet. Imagine how many water molecules are in the seas and oceans.

Maths

Maths

In my dragon maths I've learned how to add and sub in different ways. It was really hard because I like using my own way. Then my mum showed me and then It was easy.In mental maths I've learned my prime numbers. Like 2 is one because it can only be made by times it s own number and 1.

R.E

R.E.

Lately in R.E. we have been learning the Sacrament. I've also received
my first Eucharist. I learned that the sacraments are what Jesus did in his life. We have also found and read  readings of when he was alive. Have found these reading very interesting as been doing it.

Writing reflection

Writing Reflection

In my writing refection I have found it quite easy to switch from Info report to a moment in time/first person. I just think about changing and it happens
You have to have lots of descriptive words. I have 94 and still going. I'm probably going to get up to 110 or more at this rate. Here's one of my first few paragraphs.

Moment in time

I'm here, gigantic gates greet me. I see million and millions of people flowing in and out. I'm really here, dream world.
