My learning goal

My learning goal

Today in class we chose our learning goals. We had to chose reading goals, writing goals and maths  goals. My maths goals is very interesting and that is what I'm going to talk to you about today.

My maths goal is to add and subtract four digit numbers like 3999+1876 but in column format (Algorithm):
            1
        3999
1.  + 1879
              8
First, I add the ones and if it is 10 or more I will add the one on top of the tens. E.g. 9+9=18 so I write 8 and add the 1 on top of the tens.
          11
        3999
2.  + 1879
            78
Second, I add the tens and again, if there is 10 or more I will add the one on top of the hundreds. E.g. 9+7+1=17 so I write 7 and add the 1 on top of the hundreds.
        111
        3999
3.  + 1879
          878
Third, I add the hundreds and once again, if there is 10 or more I will add the one on top of the thousands. E.g. 9+8+1=18 so I write the 8 and add the 1 on top of the thousands.
        111
        3999
4.  + 1879
        5878
Fourth and final, I add all the thousands together to get 5 (3+1+1) and put that in front of the 8. If you did it right you would get 5878!

Spiders are listening to you...

New research say that spiders are actually listening to you. US and Israeli scientst have been looking carefully at spiders (no spider inperticuler) and seeing how they react to loud and soft sounds. they found this by using a jumping spider an sliding chairs across the floor. I found this very interesting and I will be very careful for what I say about spiders around them.

Trees can talk to other trees

Today in kiwi kids news I learned about how trees can talk to other trees. Like when there is a disease and if there is little water and other things similer like that. German tree expert Peter Wohlleben says that trees have personalities and can even recognize family members. When the 'mother' tree spreads her seed she raises them like her children and helps them grow so they can spread their seeds. I really enjoyed this topic because I am passionate about nature.
